HCLTech, the Indian IT services group, announced on Monday, October 12, a Global Premier Partnership with Anthropic. Under the deal HCLTech will set up a dedicated Anthropic business unit, its software arm HCLSoftware becomes an Anthropic ISV partner, and Claude and Claude Code will be built into HCLTech's own agentic engineering platform. The announcement went out as a joint press release on PR Newswire, datelined Santa Clara and Noida, with quotes from both companies' top executives.

The release does not disclose financial terms, revenue commitments, headcount for the new unit or a rollout timeline. Everything below is what the two companies say they will do, not something that has been independently confirmed.

Three parts to the deal

  • Services. HCLTech will create an Anthropic business unit with a Center of Excellence to build agentic AI solutions on Claude, Cowork and Claude Code. It says it will offer secure sandbox environments for enterprise Claude deployments, delivered through what the release calls FDEs (usually short for forward-deployed engineers), and help clients with AI-native engineering practices and workforce training.
  • Software. HCLSoftware becomes an Anthropic ISV partner and will embed Claude capabilities into select products in cybersecurity, automation, business process applications and application development. The release names HCL BigFix (endpoint management) and HCL AppScan (application security testing), and says the partnership will also enable the Actian AI analyst.
  • Internal platform. HCLTech will integrate Claude and Claude Code into AI Force, its agentic software engineering platform, for IT support, code remediation and digital employee services. The release says those workflows run with policy guardrails, exception handling and human oversight for high-impact changes.

Why governance is the headline

The release returns to safety, cybersecurity and governance in nearly every paragraph, and the choice of products fits. BigFix patches and configures large fleets of endpoints; AppScan finds vulnerabilities in application code. Putting a coding agent near those systems is useful only if its changes can be gated, and the stated design, with policy guardrails and human sign-off on high-impact changes, is the control layer enterprises usually ask for before letting agents touch production.

HCLTech manages those kinds of systems for banks, hospitals, telecom companies and manufacturers, and we're excited to partner with them as they integrate Claude and Claude Code.

HCLTech CEO C Vijayakumar framed the company's advantage as combining "the scale of a global systems integrator with the product depth of an ISV." That dual role is what sets this deal apart from a standard reseller arrangement: the same company will both deploy Claude for clients and ship it inside products it sells.

Context

The scale is significant. By HCLTech's own figures it employs more than 223,000 people in 60 countries and reported $14.8 billion in revenue for the 12 months ending June 2026. Systems integrators of this size are how frontier models get into regulated, legacy-heavy enterprises that will not wire an API into production on their own.

The deal also fits a pattern visible on Anthropic's newsroom. In recent weeks Anthropic has announced a partnership with Accenture on embedded evaluation (September 18), a Barclays deployment (October 1) and a $100 million program to train 10,000 engineers on enterprise AI (October 2). Taken together, Anthropic is leaning on services partners and trained implementers, not only direct sales, to move Claude from pilots into production.

What to watch

The open questions are concrete: when Claude-powered features actually ship in BigFix and AppScan, what "Global Premier" means in Anthropic's partner tiers, how large the new business unit is, and whether HCLTech gives figures on Claude-related deals when it next reports results. Until then this is a statement of intent from two companies, without disclosed numbers.

Why this matters

  • A 223,000-person systems integrator is a main route for frontier models into regulated enterprises that will not build agent deployments in-house.
  • HCLTech will both deploy Claude as a service and embed it in its own security and endpoint products, a deeper commitment than a reseller deal.
  • The stated controls (policy guardrails, exception handling, human sign-off on high-impact changes) show what enterprises expect before agents touch production systems.

Key takeaways

  • HCLTech is creating a dedicated Anthropic business unit and Center of Excellence.
  • HCLSoftware becomes an Anthropic ISV partner; BigFix and AppScan are named products.
  • Claude and Claude Code go into HCLTech's AI Force platform for IT support and code remediation.
  • No financial terms, headcount or timeline were disclosed.
