  • Ask the model to flag uncertainty: 'if you are not sure, say so.'
  • Use AI for structure and argument shape, not factual claims.

Will AI give me real citations?
AI language models cannot verify sources in real time unless a search tool is connected. When asked for citations from memory, they produce plausible-sounding references that may not exist or may be incorrect. Always supply the source text yourself and ask the model to cite specific passages from what you provided.
Can I use AI to write my entire literature review?
You can use AI to draft structure, synthesize arguments you supply, and suggest transitions — but the factual content must come from sources you have verified. A literature review written from AI memory alone is likely to contain hallucinated papers or distorted findings. Use AI for shape and draft; use your sources for substance.
